Una computazione che si immonda e si fa mondo (Accoto 2021)

“Il divenire-ambientale della computazione è una nuova terraformazione, un nuovo modo di sentire e abitare del/il pianeta, una nuova forma di civilizzazione, insieme antropica e negantropica. Per questo nuovo atterrare dell’umano sul pianeta Terra, le metafore ambientali e volumetriche della computazione si ampliano. Cloud computing, fog computing, edge computing mappano, oggi, figurativamente e tecnicamente i dove della computazione, le sue locazioni: sulla nuvola, nella nebbia o al margine del mondo. Tuttavia, queste collocazioni spaziali della computazione sono anche e soprattutto configurazioni modali della computazione. Tra sensing, mining e learning, dobbiamo riconoscere che nuvole, nebbie e nodi non sono tanto luoghi della computazione quanto anche e soprattutto modi della computazione. Più radicalmente, incarnano proprio un nuovo modo d’essere del mondo. Dalla nuvolo-natività delle applicazioni passando per i layer intermedi dei fog gateway fino ai nodi di edge disseminati e impiantati sul terreno, la computazione è e si fa stratificazione neogeologica. An inwordled computation becomes the world (Accoto)

“The becoming-environmental of computation is a new terraforming, a new way of feeling and inhabiting of/the planet, a new form of civilization, both anthropic and neganthropic. In this new landing of the human on the planet Earth, environmental and volumetrical metaphors of computation are expanding. Cloud computing, fog computing, edge computing figuratively and technically map today the places of computation, its locations: on the cloud, in the fog or at the edge of the world. However, spatial localizations of computation are also and above all modal configurations of computation. Between sensing, mining, and learning, we must recognize that cloud, fog, and edge are not so much a locus of computation as they are a modus of computation. More radically, they precisely embody a new way of being of the world. From the cloud-nativity of applications through the layers of fog gateways to the edges/nodes scattered and implanted on the ground, computation is and becomes a neo-geological layering.
