“Il divenire-ambientale della computazione è una nuova terraformazione, un nuovo modo di sentire e abitare il pianeta, una nuova forma di civilizzazione insieme antropica e negantropica. Per questo nuovo atterrare dell’umano sul pianeta Terra, le metafore ambientali e volumetriche della computazione si sono ampliate. Così, cloud computing, fog computing, edge computing mappano, oggi, figurativamente e tecnicamente i dove della computazione, le sue locazioni: sulla nuvola, nella nebbia o al margine del mondo. E tuttavia, queste collocazioni spaziali della computazione sono anche e soprattutto configurazioni modali della computazione. Tra sensing, mining e learning dobbiamo riconoscere che nuvole, nebbie e nodi non sono tanto luoghi della computazione, quanto soprattutto modi della computazione. Di più e più radicalmente, incarnano proprio un nuovo modo d’essere del mondo. Dalla nuvolo-natività delle applicazioni passando per i livelli intermedi dei fog gateways fino ai nodi di edge disseminati e impiantati nel terreno, la computazione si immonda, si fa nuova stratificazione geologica. “The becoming-environmental of computation is a new terraforming, a new way of feeling and inhabiting the planet, a new form of civilization, anthropic and neganthropic at once. For this new landing of the human on planet Earth, the environmental and volumetrical metaphors of computation have expanded. Thus, cloud computing, fog computing, edge computing map, today, figuratively and technically, the locus of computation, its locations: on the cloud, in the fog or at the edge of the world. And yet, these spatial locations of computation are also and above all modal configurations of computation. Between sensing, mining, and learning, we must recognise that clouds, fogs, and nodes are not so much places of computation as they are primarily modes of computation. More radically, they embody a new way of being of the world. From the cloud-nativity of applications through the intermediate layers of fog gateways to the edge nodes scattered and implanted in the ground, computation becomes mundane, it becomes a new geological stratification.
