Per criticità architetturali come privacy, latency, security, connectivity ed efficiency, la computazione si è venuta stratificando in layer sovrapposti dai nomi evocativi. Cloud computing, fog computing, edge computing mappano, oggi, figurativamente i dove della computazione, le sue locazioni: sulla nuvola, nella nebbia, al margine del mondo. C’è, dunque, una topologia e molte topologie della computazione, una geografia e anzi più geografie del processare l’informazione, una e molteplici spazialità per in-formare il mondo. Queste collocazioni della computazione sono anche e però configurazioni della computazione. Il rischio è che i “dove” locativi tendano a oscurare i “come” normativi della computazione. A detta degli esperti, la nuvolo-natività (cloud-nativity) è altra cosa dal mero trasferimento di preesistenti applicazioni e servizi sulla nuvola. Così, il cloud non è tanto il luogo della computazione, ma è soprattutto il modo della computazione. Come per il computing al margine incarnato dai sensori/attuatori dei nodi di edge e dal layer dei fog gateway. Due to architectural criticalities such as privacy, latency, security, connectivity and efficiency, computation has stratified into overlapping layers with evocative names.
